Ikea has bought a shopping centre in London where it will a launch a small-format store selling more than 2,000 home furnishing accessories.

The Swedish retail group’s property arm, Ingka Centres, has snapped up Kings Mall Shopping Centre in Hammersmith for £170 million as the company moves forward with a strategy to develop mixed-use sites in city centres, despite the pressure on high streets.

The store, due to open in spring 2021, will be Ikea’s sixth in London, the most recent having opened in Greenwich last year. It also opened two planning studios in the capital last year under its plan to develop new formats.
