Cardiff Circular Economy Network is a fully funded 4-month pilot programme supporting businesses, schools and colleges within the Cardiff Council boundary to network and begin to implement circular economy solutions.
The Cardiff Circular Economy Network (CCEN) is a collaborative project between Cardiff Metropolitan University, Celsa Steel UK, One Planet Cardiff and Cardiff Commitment (Curriculum Development). The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
This is a pilot project working with businesses, schools and colleges within the Cardiff Council boundary. The CCEN project is a series of 4 workshops that will support practitioners to come together to network and develop a fuller understanding of circular economy (CE) principles.
Our pilot programme is well underway now, but you can join our community if you want to be kept up to date with our findings, future opportunities and the latest developments regarding the circular economy in Wales.

Business Workshops
The Cardiff Circular Economy Network has supported businesses within the Cardiff Council boundary to come together to develop a fuller understanding of circular economy (CE) principles and assess how to redesign their products and services to incorporate these principles.
Education Workshops
The Cardiff Circular Economy Network (CCEN) has supported schools and colleges within the Cardiff Council boundary to come together to develop a fuller understanding of circular economy (CE) principles and has provided educators with the tools to embed CE principles across the curriculum, particularly in the Humanities and STEM areas of learning.

CCEN also supported one of the Four Purposes in the aims-based New Welsh Curriculum, to enable children and young people to become ‘ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world’ (Donaldson, 2015).
Building a more sustainable future
Pioneered by Ellen MacArthur, the circular economy encompasses a new way of thinking. More ‘traditional’ views of the economy are linear in thinking, where products are bought, used, and then thrown away. Put simply, the circular economy is a system in which resources such as materials and equipment are used, reused and repurposed as effectively as possible, and for as long as possible.
