Schematics

A specific recommendation from the HSE and forms an integral part of your water hygiene management programme

HSG 274 Part 2 states that a written control scheme must have.

“…up-to-date schematic plan showing the layout of the system(s) and its location within and around the premises – this should identify piping routes, storage, and header tanks, calorifiers, and relevant items of plant, especially water softeners, filters, strainers, pumps, and all water outlets”.

Schematic drawings form an integral part of any water hygiene control system, are a specifically recommended item within Health & Safety Executive guidance, and vital to aiding the overall control of Legionella bacteria in water systems. The necessity for, and level of detail within such schematics is dependent upon risk – the higher the risk, the greater importance there is attached to a clear and precise schematic representation.

The Water Hygiene Centre produces a range of different schematics, including very simple line drawings, isometric drawings, or more complex layered drawings. We produce these drawings using various Computer Aided Design [CAD] packages, typically AutoCAD, thereby allowing estates & facilities personnel, plant operators, and other engineering staff, to gain a better understanding of how their water systems operate in addition to highlighting areas of potential risk.

If you’re not sure whether your schematics require an update, we can also provide you with a desk-based schematic review tool to help with this decision. This can either be completed by yourself or for a small fee, we can complete this on your behalf.  The review is based on your current schematic drawings, Legionella risk assessment report and risk minimisation schemes.  A brief written report recommending where an updated schematic is required will then be issued in both PDF and Excel formats, so you can keep it updated.

“I was very pleased in the way your company conducted themselves on all our sites whilst undertaking the surveys. Your staff were pleasant and respectful to others which we promote as a hospital Trust. The drawings are what we asked for and with the capability of our own staff to be able to add and remove is a good asset to have. I would have no problem in recommending your company to others who are looking for the same kind of survey”.

John Nicholls, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

“The whole process was painless and straight forward.  Great communication from everyone involved.  Very professional service as always and I would highly recommend the Water Hygiene Centre to anyone looking for Domestic Hot Water Schematics and all HSG 274 and HTM04 compliance works”.

Marc Randall, Buckinghamshire College Group

“Our Schematics were completed and delivered by the Water Hygiene Centre in a professional manner and I would happily recommend them to other potential clients”.
