West Yorkshire Safer Roads - Op Snap

Op snap header image, with blue background. Words overlaid read "Op snap - working together for safer roads in West Yorkshire" alongside the Vision Zero and West Yorkshire Police crest.

Op Snap, and the Safer Roads Media Submissions portal, is a response to increasing submissions of footage relating to driving offences that members of the public have witnessed.

Until now, these reports have been submitted to the police in a variety of ways and so a streamlined process has now been developed to deal with them. This will hopefully make it easier for all involved.

This portal can only be used for driving offences, it is not for submitting footage of Road Traffic Collisions or public order offences, and is not for reporting crime.

For other crime reporting methods, such as : theft of a vehicle, drink/drug drivingnuisance / obstructive parking issues or nuisance bikes / quad bikes / off roaders see our main 'report it' page.

In an emergency always dial 999 where there is a threat to life or a crime in progress, for non-emergencies use contact us via Live Chat, or dial 101.

Operation Snap Proactive Publications

There has been a significant public interest in the dash cam submissions made by the public and their outcomes. West Yorkshire Police has therefore decided to publish the full years' data for 2021, and then on a quarterly basis as of 01/01/2022.

The data will include:

  • The transport mode of the footage received
  • Offender Vehicle Make, Model and Colour
  • Offence
  • District where the offence took place
  • Recommended Disposal at the point of triage
  • Month and Year of Submission
  • Offence Location

An individual’s personal data is protected under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR - 'personal data' means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly.

Please note that the addresses provided in the 'Location' column are sorted into alphabetical order and reviewed to ensure no personal addresses are provided. This may also include removing duplicate entries. As such, the addresses do not match up to the submission on the same row. This is to minimise the potential of any individuals being identified.

To provide any additional information such as time of offence could identify a living individual therefore this is exempt under virtue of Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you would like to see more information that West Yorkshire Police proactively publish please click here to view our Proactive Publications pages.
