Apprenticeships consist of a real job and training, providing you with the opportunity to gain industry knowledge and skills on the job, whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Learn at your own pace, with the full support of your employer and a mentor in your workplace.

Be employed, earn a salary, and experience the workplace as a fully-fledged employee, including receiving paid holiday.

Apprenticeships offer great future earning potential as you are already on a career pathway.

There are fantastic opportunities for real future career development. Apprenticeships are now offered up to degree level, so you can really climb the career ladder.

About Apprenticeships

As an apprentice, you are employed to carry out your role within the workplace with a minimum of 6 hours per week set aside and dedicated to training - this will be both within your workplace and here at York College. Earning a wage whilst you learn is a huge benefit of completing an apprenticeship and can help you kick start your career, providing you with valuable on-the-job skills that are unique to apprenticeship courses.

Apprenticeships are not just for school leavers, anyone who is looking to further their career at any age can enhance their qualifications and can study an apprenticeship to retrain or upskill.

York College offers a full suite of apprenticeships in different industry sectors, including, Construction, Engineering, Business, Hospitality, Hair & Beauty and Science. These range from Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) through to Level 4 (Foundation Degree equivalent).

What our students say
Simeon Farrar

"I chose this apprenticeship as I’d previously studied the Electrical Installations Diploma Level 2 full-time and really enjoyed it. I really like that studying an apprenticeship means I’m out in the workplace learning new skills four days a week and then I have one day a week at College.

My overall experience at York College has been great. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most has been representing the College in competitions. I’m planning on becoming a fully qualified electrician and am hoping to start my own business in the future."
